eat, damn you!

Our infuriating eldest is on yet another self imposed hunger strike. Today he ate 1 croissant (a desperate purchase following no breakfast) 5 pieces of chopped mango, a nibble on the end of a banana, a sniff of a grape, 4 snackajacks (please don't mention the salt in those babies, I might collapse from the strain), and two teaspoons of weetabix, (he refused meatballs and spaghetti and fish fingers with lovingly home made potato wedges and peas.)
He looks like he is starving (well, not quite- but is certainly more slender) and has just drawn all over his tummy in biro.
He has also learnt to pull his trousers on and off unaided and has named everything 'MINE!'
Meanwhile, it has dawned on us that the other child might also need a bit of work. Yes, he's happy to observe and giggles quite a lot, but has slickly lulled us into allowing an appalling sleep routine. He woke 12 times the other night demanding a breast.
So, structured naps, a painfully intricate feed-then-cuddle-then-patting-and-shushhhing-whilst-laid-in-the-cot, has yielded a more peaceful few nights.
Gaaaaaah!

Oh Minks, I started writing a really long comment about my niece only eating yoghurt and frozen peas for months and then thought better of it ....it must be frustrating and worrying and all sorts of other words ending in 'ing'. He will be fine but that's not the point...

take care.

I feel a powerful male need to offer platitudinous and glib "solutions". I have overcome the urge. Sorry you're having a miserable time.

Hi Minks, you don't say if Ezra is drinking milk ... an awful lot of calories, vitamins and minerals in there so if milk is still his main drink the chances are he is getting enough for his needs.
Could the HV maybe weigh him the next time you take Seth to the clinic?... then you'd know for sure if he is actually underweight or if he just looks like that to you because he has put on a lot of growth and has "lengthened" in appearance and he is loosing his babyish features especially when sitting next to a new baby with chubby cheeks and dimpled elbows
:-)

Hi Stroppy, nice to hear from you. Yes, he drinks lots of milk, and juice and water. He was weighed 2 weeks ago and was ok for his height. He has subsequently lost weight due to his self imposed hunger strike. One day, he will eat three meals a day plus snacks. One day...

My best friend's son does this too. The doc told her not to monitor how much he eats in a day, but in a week. Does that help? x
